Reasonable Doubt becomes audiobook

October 16, 2018

Reasonable Doubt—a recently-updated book about one of the Midwest’s most notorious crimes—has just been published as an audiobook.

Tantor Audio released an unabridged version of author Steve Vogel’s New York Times best-seller about the Hendricks family murders Oct. 16.  The 17-hour narration is  by Keith Sellon-Wright, who serves as a “voice of The New York Times,” narrating selected articles for the daily audio edition on Audible. His acting career has spanned a wide variety of television shows ranging from “Wings” and “Seinfeld” to “Mad Men” and “NCIS.”  He’ll be seen in an episode of Showtime’s “Shameless” this season.

Reasonable Doubt: a shocking story of lust and murder in the American heartland chronicles the 1983 ax murders of Central Illinois resident Susan Hendricks and her three young children and the investigation and trials that followed. The killings occurred in Bloomington, Ill., in November of 1983.

The book was first published in hardcover in 1989, became a New York Times best-seller as a paperback in 1990, was updated in 1991 and re-issued in 1994 as part of the St. Martin’s Press True Crime Classics series.

Earlier this year a newly-updated version was published as both a trade paperback and an e-book, about the same time the Hendricks case received renewed attention in a nationally-broadcast TV series, “20/20 on ID.”

Tantor Audio, based in Connecticut, is a subsidiary of Recorded Books, the largest independent publisher of unabridged audiobooks with operations in the United States, Great Britain and Australia.
