Baden speaks out on Epstein case

November 1, 2019 By admin Leave a Comment

Dr. Michael Baden, the former New York City medical examiner who captivated jurors with his expert testimony in both David Hendricks murder trials, believes the death of Jeffrey Epstein was probably a homicide–not a suicide.

Epstein, the financier and convicted sex offender, was found hanging in his Manhattan jail cell in August. Authorities ruled it a suicide by hanging.

Baden was hired by Epstein’s brother to observe the autopsy. “The brother is concerned that if Epstein was murdered, then other people who have information might be at risk,” Baden said. “A number of people had to be involved if this was a homicide.”

Baden told Fox News that Epstein’s body had injuries that are “extremely unusual in suicidal hangings and could occur much more commonly in homicidal strangulation.” He cited fractures around Epstein’s Adam’s apple.

“Hanging does not cause these broken bones, and homicide does,” he said.  “A huge amount of pressure was applied.”

He called on authorities to release any DNA evidence that was gathered.  “They took fingernail clippings to see if there’s anybody else’s DNA on it, and that hasn’t been released,” he said. “Neither has information about whose DNA is on the ligature.”

Baden also raised suspicions about the supposed “breakdown in security with “the extremely unlikely” coincidences of two guards falling asleep while video cameras in Epstein’s cell and hallway were inoperative.  “Occasionally a guard falls asleep,” he said.  “Never two guards at the same time.”

Baden testified for the prosecution in both Hendricks trials. He was a defense witness in O.J. Simpson’s murder trial.  Baden also hosted “Autopsy,” an HBO television documentary series, for 13 years.
