California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s moratorium on capital punishment in his state removes some of the urgency surrounding the case of Kevin Cooper, convicted in one of three other family murder cases that had striking similarities with the Hendricks family murders.
In my original reporting for my book, Reasonable Doubt, I came across those killings that occurred within a few months of one another.
Cooper, who has long maintained his innocence, is one of 737 inmates on California’s death row. His case has been the subject of great controversy and multiple media reports, including this CBS News report in December of 2018.
