Like prosecutors in the Hamm-LaGrone murder cases, the defendants’ attorneys were interested in learning how Amanda Hamm’s vehicle would respond in various circumstances.
One of the more intriguing discoveries, as illustrated in this video, was that if the Oldsmobile Cutlass’ steering-column gear shift was momentarily placed in drive, and then into reverse, the car would still go forward when the brake was released.
Test engineers conducted this experiment on a street with the same angle of incline as the Clinton Lake boat ramp and used a car similar to Hamm’s—but not Hamm’s.
